New addition eve's are still exposed with the plastic attic vents. Can I staple screen material up without causing an air movement problem?? What about when the soffits do go up, can I leave it there? Mainly to keep bugs out....

I assume that you will be covering with a vented soffit. In the mean time, I suppose that stapling screen would work. The staples may get in the way when installing new soffit. You'll just have to wait and see if it'll have to come down.

We are wanting to finish our basement. We have a blueprint designed by an architect, however, we would like to do the work ourselves. WE ARE NOT BUILDERS! What is the best "How to" resource we should use, that also has pictures? We have the summer off, so husband and I will be doing the bulk of it.

Adding a Basement

I want to convert my crawl space into a full basement but have been unable to find a contractor who does this. I did talk to a nearby neighbor who did it himself (and was quite successful!) and I'm considering this. I'd be a lot happier if I could find some "how to" suggestions, so I can avoid any serious pitfalls. My home presently is a 1 story, sitting on a 3 foot block foundation, with about 3-4 foot of crawl space. I've had both concrete (footings, block and slab work) and residential framing experience, so I'm pretty sure I could handle the work. Any suggestions?
