No place for soffit vents

I own a 30 x 36 ranch house which I'm installing ridge vents. I planned on installing soffit vents until I realized I have only 15 ft in the front of the house where I have an eave to install them to. How can I adequately ventilate the attic without having to install a turbine or attic fan?

You might have to install a few 'mushroom' vents low on the roof line in lieu of soffit vents. They will serve the same purpose -- allowing air into the attic for ventalation.

Preparing basement floor for painting

I am preparing my basement floor for painting,with one of the concrete paints from a big box, and confused about how to best prep the floor. Is acid etching really necessary? Is there a way to acid etch a floor that I can't simply hose down? There's a "floor primer" that I saw at my big box. Is it helpful to use a primer on a concrete floor prior to painting it with a concrete paint? Any suggestions are helpful!

Dehumidifier recommendations

Just purchased a new (existing) house that has a finished basement. It is a little damp and musty smelling down there so I'm thinking about getting a dehumidifer. What brands might people suggest? I've done a little poking around on the net at some different models and sizes, but I am not sure what I would need either. The basement is probably 700 SF approximatley. Some of the ones I've read about can handle 3,000 SF which would seem like overkill for my needs. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and help!
