Our house has no attic insulation. How important is it to get a tight seal with the edges of the insulation (with attached vapor barrier) to the edges of the ceiling? We have an unusual situation over our living room ceiling in the attic that prevents us from walking over it, and it does not have standard joists. We were thinking of just stapling some batts together and lying it over the general area. If the only problem with not sealing it well is less effectivness that's fine, but I dont want to create More moisture problems inadvertantly. Thanks

If you have some "unusual situation" over your living room ceiling that "prevents you from walking over it", your problems are a whole lot more serious than a vapor barrier! It what you have for ceiling joists won't support the weight of your walking over it, how are they going to support the addition of a couple hundred pounds of insulation??
