Question

I have two "lines" of 4"X 2" timbers which run over the joists from either side of the chimney breast to the outer wall. (Joists run parallel to the chimney breast.)

Can I take these up to complete the flooring ot will it cause a problem?

Also, apart from protecting the wiring, do I have to do anything regarding damp protection or anything else other than laying and securing flooring boards?

Cheers!

Yes, you can pull up the 2x4's. Everything else sounds fine.

Question boards running over the top of joists in attic?

If I understand correctly, I have the same 2 "lines" of 4"X 2" timbers which run over the top joists. The joists 2"X6" run east and west and on top of that running north and south is several 2"X6" boards nailed together running to the outer walls. If these can be safly removed...just why were they there in the first place? I need to install a attic ladder there.
