Question

We have added on a new bedroom and bath. What thickness of drywall should I use on the walls and ceiling. I'm thinking 3/8". Any suggestions. No wall is a firewall.

I recommend a minimum of 1/2" on the walls and 1/2" minimum on the ceiling if the joists are on 16" centers and 5/8" if the joists are on 24" centers. 3/8" will sag on the ceilings and it is borderline on the walls.

You should use 1/2" on the walls, but I know many parts of the country it is hard to get 1/2 sheetrock. In that case, use 3/8" on your walls.
