Question

I have an attic above my garage where the insulation between 2 studs has fallen off (not sure if there was water damage or if paper was chewed through by critters or insects) and is on the floor of the attic. The house was built in 1964, and my guess is that it is the original insulation. How do i tell if there is any threat of asbestos up there (whom should i contact) and what do i do about the rest of the insulation in the house?

Just for your peace of mind, asbestos in not harmful if left undisturbed. It is when people are removing it that the dust get going and that is what is dangerous. I probably would not worry, but if you want to be really sure, contact a testing lab (yellow pages) and have them do an asbestos test for you.

Thanks, Jack. I had read the part about it being undisturbed before and actually posted a different question on the "Insulation" board. It needs replacing in the attic (either water or critter damage to a lot of batts) so i wondered about the asbestos part. And it is from 1964.

Thanks again. I'll let youknow what happens.
