What is the best way with ordinary home tool to attach studs to cinderblock walls in the basement? Concrete nails dont seem to hold and break up the cinderblock.

Abbil,Try to never pierce your foundation with any type of nail, screw, etc. Your question alludes to the damage which can result. A masonary adhesive should work just as well for you .Also, the floor joists(the beams which rest on the seal plate and provide support for your floor. The seal plate itself ,if present(lying flat atop the top row of cement block),may provide an alternative wooden attachment points.Best Wishes,Jack Masters

Sorry, you cannot attach a wall to cinder block. Built another stud wall against the block wall. Stay out about 1", put a plastic vapor barrier between your new wall and the cinder block wall. Use treated floor sill. Good Luck
