I'm trying to figure out if I need to put in a drop ceiling or not in my basement, right now its unfinished. See right now, the pipes for the central air unit as well as a few others, run under the floor joists and not threw them like they do in most newer houses. I have less than 8inches between my head and the bottom of the boards. Now would it be easier and less expensive to put in a drop ceiling in and not move the pipes? or would it be better to just re all of the pipes, and wires (cable) and stuff threw the boards?

Script:
Only you can make that decision. Take the height of you pipes, and subtract 2", and see if that is enough head room for you. I think that this will make your decision. It will be expensive to move all of your piping
up into the floor joists. Good Luck

The ceiling doesn't have to be that low in all the basement, just under the pipes and ductwork. You can either use the same suspended tiles or drywall that section. The rest of the ceiling can be higher. This is very common.
