foundation sill replacement
#1

What is the best way to replace foundation sills and sill plates? Our house is brick veneer and we are concerned about cracking as we jack.

You will have to replace it in sections. Probably no more then 8 feet at a time. You will need a 1/2" drive drill, 1" extended drill bits, a sawsall with 12" steel cutting blade, and probably a few other tools before you begin. you will have to drill a hole through the sill and then cut out little pieces of the old sill. When you have reached 6 or 7 feet, slide the new sill in.
If you have not had alot of experience with framing construction, it may be better for you to have a carpenter do the work. It will not take them long, and could be less expensive for you. PS You have to seal the new sill, and attach it to your foundation also. Good Luck
