Question

My basement is drain tiled and has a sump pump. It all seems to work very well except I have found one cement block that has some water drainage from it. I have also noticed mildew around that block. We have recently had a lot of rain that may be a factor. We have purchased a dehumidifier and have dried up the area but still get that one area with leakage. How do I go about fixing this problem. Like I said this is the only spot in the basement with a problem.

First you need to determine where the water is coming from. It could be as simple as repairing (cleaning out) a gutter. The water could also be coming in around the roof and running down the walls.

Where is this one wet block? Top of the wall, middle, bottom? close to the sump pump? Near a window?

When you say drain tiled what do you mean?

I have just started on a basement which has weeping tile under the concrete around the inside of the basement. There is a lot of water in the tile and no sump pump.

I can't figure out how this is supposed to work. Any ideas?

The wetness of the brick is near the bottom of the wall in the corner opposite the sump pump. Any thing I can do with it?

When you find out let me know. We have a house built in the 1800's with serval blocks leaking. Thank God for the drains in the basement floor. Also have dehumidifer in basement. Also the wall seperating the two basement rooms I find brick dust on the floor. I figure this can't be a good thing. What dan I do with limited time & money?

I have the same question (about the wet bricks). We're trying to paint, and carpet the basement, but there is some water damage. Contractor says not enough for sump pump. Have used basement waterproofing paint from Menards, but each morning a rust colored liquid soaks through.

How do I dry out the bricks to take the paint? Have de-humidifier, and have addressed the gutters and run-off problems.

Any help would be much appreciated!
