Question

We are in the process of finishing our basement which is built in to a hill. The back of the house is 2 stories. After several rain storms we have found a few small puddles in the middle of the floor with no known source of the water. We are thinking that it is a drainage problem and that the water is coming up through the foundation. We are close to carpeting and very worried about what we can do ourselves to prevent future puddles. Help please.

You have a right to be concerned. When you see these little puddles, that is usually a preview of the big puddles to come. The sus-soil moisture under you floor is too high in the soil. You are going to be look at a drainage situation to divert the water from the hill away from your foundation. I would probably call in a contractor to take a look at it. They will be helpful, and will not charge you. but they will tell you how to probably fix your problem. Good Luck

Draining water heater peridodically

Hello,

Does anyone have an opinion regarding if a gas water heater should be drained periodically to remove sediment and rust?

I drained a bucket from mine this week, and now I am having trouble with the drain faucet. It is dripping now, and I had to close it with pliers to stop it from spraying all over. It is one of those plastic faucets.

I'm wondering if I should bother doing this at all.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Todd
