insulating basement

We are framed, and ready to drywall (sheetrock)our basement. We have a poured concrete, dry basement. Is it necessary to insulate walls and/or use a vapor barrier to guard against mold, mildew, etc developing between the foundation and sheetrock?

In Kansas, you probably do not need to insulate if you do not want to. This is up to you, but I would definetly put up the vapor barrier. Good Luck

Carpet over concrete floor

I am finishing off half my basement. The existing floor is concrete. I plan to put carpet down. I remember reading an article in a magazine on how to prepare the concrete for carpet. I believe the article mentioned using roofing paper. My basement is like most a little damp. Please let me know any proper steps to complete the carpet installation. Thanks, Scott

whole house fan

i have a 2 story home that stays hotter upstairs when the lower floor is cool. i was thinking of installing a whole house fan but have no idea of what i need to be aware of before installing one. i have blown insulation in my attic and am wondering if that poses a problem.
