Soffit framing in basement

I've been told that when I install soffits to frame out the the ceiling in my basement that they should have a wooden barrier on the inside as a fire precaution.....anyone know anything about this..thanks

Carraway,

What you describe has never been done. I am unsuire as to what one is talking about, why would you use wood barrier as a fire precaution?

Wood (Fire) blocking is required when walls are above 8 ft in height but I have never heard of this for soffits, which normally run horizontal. If in doubt, ask your local building official for confirmation.

Hope this helps!
