Duct Work in Basement

I recently bought a house and the basement has ceilings that are only about 7 feet high. However, right down the middle of the room the ceiling is only about 5 1/2 feet because the ductwork from the furnace is there. My question is, can this duct work easily be moved or is there another way to get more height?

Yes, you can probably get your duct work moved for about $5000. It is not easy to move. You should have thought about this before you bought the house.

basement ceiling insulation

I bought a house that has fiberglass insulation on the floor joists on the basement ceiling. Lately we have had a heavy mildew smell and I have noticed the paper on the insulation seems moist. Should there be insulation on the ceiling ? The finished side of the basement with a drop ceiling doesn`t seem to have that problem. Thanks steve

Replacing the whole basement floor.

I am in the process of replacing me basement floor. The curent flooring consist of a 1.5 to 2'' concrete slab. Their are significant warps in the floor which reqyuire repair. I plan on removing the current floor myself, and having the concrete poured by the pro's. Are their any general things I should be concsious of as I hammer away at my existing floor? For example, Do I need to wory about removing the conrete near the edge of the walls? How deep should I dig?
