We have a finished basement, with carpeting over pad. We want to put in a new partition wall. Can the sill plate go on top of the carpeting or does it need to rest on the concrete floor?

I guess you could put it on the carpet. But it would be better (and not much more work) to cut the carpet and put it on the concrete (use pressure treated lumber).

You put in on the concrete. You must fasten your sill to the concrete floor.

Attic Ventilation

Does anyone have information on ventilating an attic with a slate roof? I have cathedral ceilings and three dormers that I wish to preserve. Also there are stops along the attic roofline. If I leave space between the insulation with plastic channels and ventilate the soffits there is nowhere for the air along the roof to go. There is no way to ventilate the roof with a ride vent (at least I think) because it's slate. Suggestions? BA

i have no idea on how to do this, but the house i moved into needs to have the basement resealed. is this something thats done on the inside or the outside of the basement, and will i be able to do this myself?
