a couple of questions

Just a couple of questions.

Can I use screws to frame my basement?

Do I need fire blocking for 9' walls that are framed w/2x2's attached to the basement walls?

I have am putting in an exercise room in my basement. I want to put it in area that includes the underside of my stairs. I want to make the area under my stairs a closet. Am I going to be hassled for the room looking like a bedroom with no window? It is a 4-bedroom house already and I don't have kids. It really isn't going to be bedroom.

Thanks,
Aaron

Screws? Sure.

Firestopping? Probably not, especially if you insulate that space. The insulation will act as a firestop.

Most inspectors consider a bedroom to be any room that has a closet and a door. Yes, I think you will get hassled unless you leave off one or the other.
