Drywall in basement????

I decided to put up some drywall on top of the vapor barrier on my 2 exterior side basement walls. I will be putting paneling over the drywall. Question: is there any advantage to taping, spackling and sanding prior to putting up the paneling, or can I just put up the drywall, tape it and the put the paneling over it?

tracey529,

There is no need to tape if paneling is going over it. It would not provide any benefit to do so.

Good Luck!

I would go ahead and put on a taping coat. No need to sand it or be fussy with it. But taped drywall is much more fire resistant than drywall just butted together.
