I have a block foundation basement. There are a few cracks that were repaired by the previous owners. Not a great job. No water leakage that we can find. We want to turn the basement into a living area. What would we use to seal and smooth the walls to paint? or is Drywalling a more cost effective choice?

The choice is really yours. If you are looking for a finish like your upstairs, then drywall is the way to go. Or simple framing and paneling or etc. If you want a block look, then seal your walls and go.

If I kept the block look, what would I use to smooth out the areas where the previous owners repaired cracks by the windows. I don't want lumpy walls.

Basement Leaking

I have a leaking poured concrete basemant wall. I had two different companies give estimates to install an interior drain tile around the perimeter. The cost is prohibitive. I went on the internet and located a product called Squidgee Seal Once Dry System. It appears to be a drain tile type drainage system that you install on top of the floor along the perimeter and have the open end drain into a sump pump or drain. Does anyone have knowledge of this or similar products? I believe that Lowe's is the only home improvement store that sells Squidgee. Thank you.

Vapor Barrier

I am replacing a studded wall & drywall to a basement wall after it all got damaged due to water leakage from rain. When I took the old wall down there was no plastic vapor barrier taped to the poured concrete walls. Do you recommend that I purchase some plastic from Home Depot / Lowe's and duct tape it to the concrete? What kind of plastic is best to use? Is this a building code requirement?
