stair stringers
#1

hi im thinking of installing a straight stairway in my hall the rise is 105,in the go is 120,in .
I know the stringers need to be 12 x 2 but
My question is what type of wood should I use for stringers I intent to have open stringers on one side (where you can see the edge of the tread from the side) the other side is against the wall .

The easiest way is to buy pre-cut horses. However, if you are going to cut your own, use yellow pine. A little more costly, but strong. That is what planks for scaffolding are made of. You may have to go to a couple of places to find it, but it is worth it. Good Luck
