basement staircase
Posted this in the lumber forum, didn't get any hits...I have a basement staircase that runs from the first floor perpendicular to one of the basement walls and the bottom of it is like 2' or so from the wall. I would like to turn the staircase near the bottom part of it so it runs parallel with that same wall. Either a radial turn or an L-turn would work. Are these available pre-fab or will I have to do this from scratch? Thanks.

Your solution is partially available. Here is how you do it. You will do an L turn. Figure how big a landing you want. 36" from the wall is probably your minimum. So measure back from your wall to the bottom of the step which closely matches the 36" landing or 40" landing which ever it is. At this point you will build your landing. 2x6 frame with joists probably 12" or 16" on center. Use 4x4 posts for legs. Put one on each corner and one in the middle of each side and a couple in the middle for strength. Once you landing is in place, then get yourself a 2 or 3 step pre-made stair runners and attach. This is about a 3 hour project and a couple beers with your buddies and if you hurry you will be cone before the NASCAR race. Good Luck
