water from monsoon rains
Atlanta, GA - In the 3 years we have lived here, no water in basement. Prev. owner installed sump pump. We were in process of finishing basement for our son when...RAIN. Last night I found a little water on floor along below ground cinder block wall. The waterproof coating on the blocks has bubbled up & turned powdery in a few spots about 1-2 feet up the wall. I guess it is past time to re-do the waterproofing? I am assuming this is what let the water in. What do you think? Also, should I waterproof the floor, paint it & use area rugs or could I put down vinyl flooring? I just want to minimize water related cleanup later. THANKS!!!

marykj,
It seems that the sump pump might had been put in but it might not had been done right.
Obviously, the wall waterproofing, if this was a "waterproofing" paint failed. Water at the floor has me concerned because I agree that it cold have come down the walls but the floor is another issue.
