Hanging Drywall

I am about to hand drywall in the basement but I am not sure if I should hand vertical and horizantal. The height it about 2 inches short of 8 feet.

gmainolfi,

It's your choice but I prefer to see drywall hung horizontally - reduces any bad joints if not taped properly. Walls look straighter than vertical. Look at the bright side, you're cutting drywall regardless which way you go.

Hope this helps!

I strongly prefer to hang drywall horizontally, for a whole host of reasons. It plays better with the strength axis of the drywall. It allows the use of sheets longer than 8 feet. It better adapts to studs that aren't perfectly spaced.
