Help with recessed lighting calc

I have just finished the rough in on my electrical for my basement, and I wanted to get some advice on lighting prior to finishing in the ceiling.

I have installed sconce lights along the side of the walls approximately ever 12' for ambient lighting. I am planning on adding recessed lighting in the ceiling as well, but I am not aware of any rules of thumb on how many to install. Is there a square footage calculation? Every n number of feet?

When I roughed in the electrical, I added enough circuits so I wouldn't run short if I need to add. Now I just need a final plan.

Any good experiences / suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks

i find that w/o any major calc. necessary, approx. 3' from the walls and 6' between lights seems to work well w/ no dark spots. adjust this to suit your room. a good rule of thumb is the circle of light on the floor from a 6" can will be approx. the same as the ceiling height.
