adjusting fold down attic stairs
We have folding attic stairs that is not closing correctly. How do we adjust the them to get it to close tighter to the ceiling?
We bought this house 5 years ago and the folding stairs were already here, so there are no instrutions for us to refer back to.

Some things to check: open the unit and check to make sure that all the nuts, bolts, and screws are tight. It is depressing how many of these get loose in the course of normal use.
Check to be sure that the unit closes without any interference.
Make sure that the metal components that extend from the unit are not bent. A bent arm can cause a spring to not pull correctly.
A couple of drops of light machine oil on the pivot points might not hurt.
If you push it into the closed position, will it stay?
