drywalling under stairway
Hi-
I'm finishing my basement and my village requires me to drywall under the staircase leading down to the basement. Before, it was just a stairway leading down with 2 x 4's framed underneath by the builder.
If I drywall this area under the stairway soley to meet code (there will be no door, just an big drywalled empty area under the stairs with a large opening) and I use it for storage (empty boxes, personal items, etc.), am I required to run wire/conduit under there and put a light in? The area AROUND the newly drywalled understairwell will be lighted as that is where the furnace and utility box is.
Thanks,
Steve

If there is no equipment that requires maintenance, then no light is required. I guess you already know that you need to use 5/8" Type X drywall, and that you need to tape it with at least one coat of mud.

John-
That's what I thought but wanted to make sure. And yes I have put up 5/8" drywall and a layer of mud, but thanks for checking. Always check for stuff like that when you see my posts please : )
Thanks for you time.
