railing in attic

I would like to build a railing around the attic stair opening. However, due to the sloping ceiling, if I had a permanent railing, I wouldn't be able to haul any large items up to the attic because I'd never get it over the railing.I'd like a removable railing but don't know how to attach it. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your ideas.

Hello & welcome to the forums.

If you want this to be removeable, only thing I could suggest is maybe some sort of peg & slot system, , something like a metal 2"x4" bracket that would install along the existing ceiling joists, you position your hangers, then measure carefully, & build your rails with downwardly extended corner & center posts that will drop into the hangers, sort of like stock racks on a p/u truck, it might not be extremely secure, but it will keep you from breakin a leg.

Or you could use a hinged post system, but that would lay the rail down underfoot when you were trying to move large itmes into the attic. Just my $.02!

Hello
if you are installing the railing along side of stairs in attic you can have a post at each end with a removable rail in between....make the rail so you can drop it in four joist hangers two each end top and bottem...pick it up to remove drop it in to repalce....
good luck and have fun...
