Railing

I need to put a railing down to my basement.
How many fastners do I need? Would it be every stud, every other stud? Is there a code for this. Wall is drywall with studs on 16" centers.

cbert04401,

Usually 3 brackets, evenly split the difference between them.

Rail height is 34" minimum to 38" maximum.

Contact your local building authority for recommendations.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Doug.
It's a 14' railing,so I may go 4 or 5. The height you gave me helps alot.
Thanks again

On raked rail That's 34-38 inches above the nose of the tread. If you do it from the back of the tread the rail will be to low.
