Recessed Lighting

I am just about down with the framing in my basement and I am starting to do some thinking about electrical stuff. My question is how many recessed light fixtures should be in each room. (I know I know depends on the size of the room) but is there some website or calculation formula that is used to determine this??

partition wall running diagonal across joists

im building a partition wall thats running diagonal across the ceiling joists. [i dont know if diagonal is the correct word, the wall is running the opposite of parallel with the joist] the last 1.5" feet of the top plate of this wall has no joists to connect to because the wall ends between 2 joists. blocking isnt really an option, unless i make an "L" shaped block out of 2 2x4s, but im sure if thats a good idea? my plan is to connect the end stud of the wall [which will be flush with the foundation] to the foundation with tapcons, and just let the top plate rest on that for added support. my concern is about 8" from the last stud there will be a door. the door is quite heavy, its a 32" 1 5/8" solid core with a 5/4 stock jamb. any ideas?Read More

Hello - I have an unfinished basement in a new home that I would like to finish. The basement is 700 SF, has a walk-out entrance, is ~3' below ground level on average, has dirt floors, ~8.5' ceilings, rough framing, and is next to a crawl space (which is covered w/ a black moisture barrier). There is a 1-way drain @ floor level that drains to the street. *My question is as follows: What are my flooring options? - Do I need to pour a concrete floor prior to putting in a subfloor? - Could I use gravel/vapor barrier, press treated joists to form a subfloor?
