Question Attic "Bonus Room" Insulation

I live in Southeast Wisconsin. My home has an attached garage with a second story "bonus room" that opens into our second floor bedroom closet. We would like to expand the bedroom closet into the bonus room for added storage and hanging space.

The floor of the bonus room (also the ceiling for the garage) is not insulated and temperatures are extreme in both winter and summer. The floor of the bonus room is a very thick composite material (1.5 to 2.0 inches) that has been screwed down and apparently glued.

Any guidance on what kind of insulation and how to insulate the floor of the bonus room so I can start construction of the expanded closet?

What do you have for the rafters in the garage under this floor?
If the garage ceiling is say drywall cut it out put insulation in there, paper side up to the floor and new drywall. ED

Attic Insulationo

Ed,

Thanks for the input. I had hoped to avoid dealing with garage ceiling due to garage door opener and a large assortment of garage "stuff." I have also looked at reducing the area of the "bonus" room modifications to eliminate a large portion of the roof area and floor area. I can essentially create a 10' by 18' walkin closet by building interior walls that are insulated and replacing some of the insulation in the roof.

Have a good holiday.

Lou
