Small Opening Attic Stairs

Does any one know where I can buy a pull down, folding attic stairs that will fit an opening of 24 x 36 or something close?

I'm in NJ, I'm hoping there's a store, HD, Lowes or a lumber yard? that I can go pick it up.

Did you get stairs for your attic? I am running into same problem. My attic opening is only 30" x 30".

most openings for attic fold down stairs are about 25" to27" wide by around 54" to56" long. what you guys got are attic access, you need a ladder. see if you cant make the opening bigger to accept the fold down.

I thing you will find that the attic stairs are made to fit most of the time in the 24 "center truss. If you have that dont cut any of the truss rafters just go the long way with them to put in the stairs

how to hide furnace, hot water tank, drain pipes and sewer pipes

we have a small laundry area that includes a sump pump, furnace, hot water tank and a number of pipes. Unfortunately, there isn't adequate room to put drywall behind the pipes. Nor is there adequate room to put a wall in front of the pipes without the sump pump getting in the way. I am looking for ways to spruce up that area without reducing the working space for laundry. Any ideas? (maybe just a bi-fold or folding door to get access to the entire space? But I would like the work area to be more attractive.Read More

Framing around heating ducts

I have a question about framing around the heating ducts. I have a section that is about 2'10" wide and 9' long and I think 1' 6" high. What would be suggested for framing of this? I plan on screwing in 2x4's at the ceiling portion but what about the bottom of the ducts? I'm trying to keep the ceiling height here at the max allowed. I thought about 1x2's but not sure. Some people I've talked to have said use plywood to keep the best height but I'm not sure if that's preferred. I've read here that screwing the entire soffit is preferred so I will be doing that as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated. KurtRead More
