How to Seal Gap between Concrete and Framing?
Hi,
I have a walkout basement.... at the points where the foundation starts to step down,. there are vertical spaces between the concrete foundation and the external framing. These spaces range from 1/8" to 1/2". How can I seal these gaps. I feel cold air rushing through these gaps so I think it would be best to seal them up. I was thinking I could shove fiberglass in the gap but then decided against it since the fiberglass would be touching the concrete directly and I worried about moisture. If I caulk the gap, is there some material I can shove in there first to use as a backing?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Lou

I would get a tube of 100% silicone and put it in with a caulk gun.
If you wanted to push something in there use a plastic garbage bag and shove pieces in with a screwdriver. Of a piece of sill seal if you have some. Very common problem. Good Luck

Dont know the name right off. Home depot and lowes has it. Comes in small cans . Say like WD 40 with tube to put it in. we use it like around windows. Holes in the plates to stop draft thats code here. After it kicks off you trim it with a knife them caulk over the out side if you want. It will go into small cracks.

low E great stuff
If you do go the option to use great stuff in the cracks and around windows make sure you get the low expansion foam. If you do get the high expansion and use it around windows and doors it can actually warp the material around it can cause the windows to not open.
