Drywall or Plaster Walls?

Just curious what the pros and cons of drywall vs. plaster walls are for a basement remodel. Does plaster hide more framing variations or vice versa?

THanks for any info

You will be hard pressed to find anyone who will plaster using the old methods. Now it is done as a finish coat over blueboard panels. The panels will reflect deficiencies like drywall, although the plaster coat may help towards hiding it. There is an obvious cost increase though.

sorry I guess I should have stated, drywall vs. blue-board plaster.

I guess the reason im asking is that I am good friends with someone who does plaster and Im sure I would only have to pay for materials and a little something for him. I still havent priced it out though for a cost comparison.

I was just wondering if there are any pros and cons to doing it either way in a basement environment, without looking at cost.

If you can get veneer plaster done for cheap then do it. It will take less time and the walls will be strong and straight. A good plasterer will straighten any wavy wall. For diy then drywall is the way to go. Also drywall is a lot cheaper.

Coops is right on the money here, plaster wall will be superior to drywall, but you're gonna pay for it, if you can get a good deal it's definitely the way to go.
