basement vent fan

I am finishing my basement and I am preparing to install a vent fan. I live just north of Toronto, and it is very cold now. I realize that houses are built year round, but I am wondering if there is any problem cutting a hole in my house and sealing it. Will the cold affect the sealer?

peter-8,

Are we talking about an exhaust fan?

If so, there is no problem cutting a hole and using silicone caulk to seal it properly.

If this is an exhaust fan for a basement, my question would be why install this in your climate area? What is the reason?

Hope this helps!

Sorry I wasn't clear. It is for a bathroom in the basement.

peter-8,

Thanks for the feedback. Using 100% silicone to seal the vent will be no problem at all.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I did it yesterday, and it looks great...was pretty intimidating when I started planning it, but it really wasn't that difficult, and it didn't take much time at all. Thanks again.
