Question Tapcon and a Concrete Block Wall?

I'm looking for some good advice here. I have read some post and still need my questions answered. HELP!!!

There are three outer walls that are not completed in my basement. Space is of concern to me. There is already a drop ceiling installed. Cable and power outlets all run thru conduits.

I want to use DOW Wallmate system but I have heard, read and so on about not drilling into your block wall. Which this requires. Can I drill into my Concrete Block Wall with Tapcon screws and be safe from leaks? I have drylocked all the walls already. I need help with this question. I'm losing my mind searching for the answer.

Thanks, DO

You did all this work and now you want to put holes in it and the wall. The wall should go from the cement floor up to the joist line. After the walls are up then the drop ceiling.

Im sorry but I would not fix , hang or make any hole into the basement wall at all . They do make a smaller steel stud you can use. To save some room.

Id pop out the last row of tile there all around. Put the walls up and then cut and refit the tile and T bar back in to the new wall. Also at this time see if there is insulation up there in the joist space there on the sill plate. All around the home. Most of the time there isn't

NO, if it state that you are not to attach, screw or drill into through whatever the wall, don't do it. How about firring out the wall with wood or metal. You can fir out with 1 1/2" on both So you don't loose to much space.

Wouldn't "firring out the wall" require attachng the wood to the block with screws?

No, you attach them to the joists and the floor. Wood wouldn't have to be clipped off to the wall, a metal would if it's 25 ga.

I don't mean to ask stupid questions. But do you mean "Clipped off to the wall"? Thanks

A clip is something that ties the stud into the wall. It is shot on to the wall and then fastened to the stud to reduce any movement. Since you are using wood you will not need this.

Ok That makes sense. Would I also use 1 1/2 sole plate as well? Attached to the floor? Also want do you suggest to get around the already installed dropped ceiling? Thanks again for all the advice. I do plan on putting crown molding up if that helps hide any markings.

You dont say what this drop ceiling is????Like I said take the panels out along the walls and recut them. Just dry wall cut it out so the wall can go up to the joist there. The cove molding will hide the marks on the ceiling

The bottom plate for the wall has to be P/T wood if it goes on cement down here .

To simply answer your original question, DO NOT drill holes into your block wall. it is a 50/50 chance that the block will crack. If that happens you have a big problem. They make several types of excellent concrete glue to glue any studs or 1x4's or paneling to concrete. You can even glue your crown molding up against your dropped ceiling if you like. Good Luck

I thought a drop ceiling was a drop ceiling. And when you say ....[QUOTE]take the panels out along the walls and recut them[/QUOTE ????

I took out the panels along the wall but currently the outer track is still attached to the block wall. I'm not sure I understand what you are suggesting.

Is it to cut the drop ceiling track at every stud location to let it go up to the joist? Please explain more or if there a site I can go to please let me know.

I want to understand. Thanks

Ok you got it. pull that track on the wall off or let it there and get new track for there. To go on the new wall when its done. then just cut the tile and cross bars to fit to the new wall. That track on the wall there is just 90o L is all. This should give you room for the new walls to go up to the joist and nail the top plate to them. Dont forget to look and see if there is insulation up there on the sill plate in each joist space

If you look at the ceiling and it was put in right The tile or panels along the wall are the same size on both walls or should be. The ceiling is like you layout for floor tile. From the center by center of the room
