Soffet vent question...

Soffet vent question...
I have bought louvered soffet vents to vent my attic. I know how to install them and all but need to know which way the open slots should face.
Towards the house or outwards from the house?

cheapfurcoat,
I would have them face away from the home but it is appearance that may matter most to you so open slots could be placed towards the home.
Regardless of how they are placed, the slots will allow air flow to provide the purpose intended.
To my knowledge, there is no set standard as to which direction they MUST be placed.
Hope this helps!

cheapfurcoat,
I appreciate the support. One more thing as Ed pointed out, ensure that you have air baffles installed if not there already. Soffit vents are worthless if the air flow is not getting up to your roof venting. Check you attic to ensure that you see daylight at the eave/wall perimeter. If not, you better get dressed to crawl and install the baffles (air chutes).
Thanks Ed

I definately thank you all. I want to get this right the first time.
Last fall I installed a full length ridge vent to go with the 2 vents at either end of the roof peak. I have now ripped all the old nasty inadiquate insulation out of the attic and vacuumed all the years worth of dust out. (Now I can breathe up there without a resperator).
I have a little bit of electrical work to do up there yet and also need to replace the screening in both end vents. I have 16 plastic baffles to install and then I am going to cut the corresponding holes in the soffet and install the soffet vents. (There are none now)
When all is done I am installing R-19 insulation between the rafters and then R-25 attic blanket cross ways to complete the job.
Thanks again!
