Attic window fan installation questions

We are moving into a 1883 victorian that has an attic with four gables. Right now there is just a fixed window in each gable. We want to make about 1/2 the attic into a room and put two window fans in this section of the attic.

What we would like to do is to find a way to have the windows move out of the way when the window fans are going, but be able to shut them for bad weather. Right now the windows are a single pane fixed. We considered making them into casement windows, but they won't seem to get enough out of the way. We even thought of making the windows into a type of "pocket window" so they would slide sideways out of the way, but I'm concerned about the weather resistance of this.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this would be appreciated

Not sure what you have there . But you could mount the fans to like 2 - 1"x2" top and bottom and they go over to the trim on the inside of the window. This way the window can go up and down when you want . Or you can just get a louver to fit the window and fan. This way turn the fan on the louver will open up
