No space for soffit vents

I just bought a small center hall colonial with a ridge vent on the roof. The attic also has a gable vent on one side and on the other an electiric attic fan. I also have an electric roof fan that automatically turns on when it gets to be ~80 degrees in the attic.

My home inspector told me that I do not have adequate intake ventilation and that I need soffit vents.

However, I absolutely have zero overhang at the bottom of my roof and consequently, no room for soffit vents.

Any suggestions as to how I can increase intake ventillation in my attic, given the fact that I have no overhang space?

Thanks for any advice out there.

If you are are really handy you can do this yourself, if not have a professional do it for you.

There are small round vents that you can just drill the hole and tap the vent in. There in the blocking they go from 1" up to 4"

No space for soffit vents

Ed,

Where can I get these small 1-4" vents? At my local home store?

Also, where do I drill the whole? Thanks.

Wink

Have to ask around where your at they come from 1" to 4"
You would drill the holes for them there in that block that goes from truss tail to truss tail or rafter to rafter tail above the plate.

Same for my house--no room for soffits.

I bought 15 2inch aluminum round louvered vents (Ace, Home Depot).

Drilled 2 inch holes in the piece of wood just under the eave (which runs horizontally), put silicone chaulk around the vents, and pushed them in.

Amazingly easy.

here's an idea

Remove every other peice of blocking and replace it with 1/4" "hardware cloth"

Soffit Vent
