Basement floor remodel

Live in an old victorian 1890. Planning on remodeling the basement. The floor is only about an inch thick. I was told not to dig up the floor because it offers structural support - which I can't believe. Also I was told the new concrete floor should be at least 6" thick, which is much thicker than the current floor. Looking for some help from somebody who knows about basement remodeling. Thanks

mmkmjaz,

Not knowing what you have for structural support, like posts and beams, it is best to make some calls to professional General Contractors.

Seems you are more aware of what "should be" versus those you have talked too.

Good Luck!
