Hello: I just bought a home built in 1926. The basement floor is covered with a black tar-like glue that, I presume, was holding down asbestos tiles at one time. Some areas on the floor, where the old furnace was, etc., are free of the glue. Many areas of the floor are pitted. I want a clean, somewhat smooth surface on the floor so I can use it as a gym, sort laundry on the floor, etc. Any ideas or advice on how to surface the floor?

Hello, We recently moved into our new home (Oct 03). This spring, I noticed small amounts of water (less then a cup) coming from a cement wall (not floor). This looks like a cement rectangle that sticks out from the wall. It does appear there was some patching done on the sides of this rectangle, and repainted (before we moved in). We have just had three days of continuous rain, and again I have noticed a small amount of water? Our home is a four level split. We also have a sump pump that does work. Even with just a small amount of water coming out (not damaging anything.... floor is still cement and this is near our washer and dryer, hot water tank) I am concerned that I think the cement rectangle has been patched (the sides are discoloured since the moisture started coming)? Who would I call as a professional to come into my home and view this? We still have some time to have this fixed by the previous owners as we have not lived here for a year. I do live in Canada.
