Attic Fan Rotation Direction
The Attic Fan in my home was working fine w/o thermostat.
Before selling it to me the seller added a thermostat.
It was working fine after I moved in.
Now it has started rotating anticlockwise.
Any ideas?
Due to this, the pulley (it's belt driven) wore off.
It's big fan (fits in 30 X 30 frame) made by Diehl.
TIA

It (fan/motor) just changed the direction of rotation.
It used to rotate clockwise i.e. throwing air out (vents would open by the force). Now it rotates anticlockwise. Obviously the vents don't open.
I did see it rotating correctly before and after my move.
And I did not touch the wiring. I only changed the temprature setting couple of times when showing the house to a friend.
It started making big noise. So I checked and removed the belt and the pulley. The pulley is worn from inside (I guess cause of the noise) which I suspect happened since fan's (motor's) direction changed.

I don't know alot about attic fans and the like...but could it be that the fan started running "backwards" to make the house warmer(if it was summer) or cooler(winter), as u requested with the thermostat, by drawing air from the attic.
Just a thought
Pulleys and motors I do know a little about, and the pulley wouldn't care which direction the motor turned...its just following along blindly, so to speak.
