Would adding covered porch divert water from basement?

I have a wet basement problem in this exceptionally wet summer. The lower part of one wall is wet along with the floor for about 1 foot from the wall. I have read all the threads about wet basement solutions. The wall happens to be in the front of the house. I planned on adding a covered front porch that would be the length of the house.

Will this take care of the wet basement problem?

LOOSEAL,

Anything that you can do to prevent moisture from entering the basement should be resolved PRIOR to adding anything else on to the home.

It appears that you have done your reading - what else needs to be done that you haven't done? Is cost an issue?

My thought is that adding anything on to the home is a "shot in the dark". It may help and may not. The choice is yours. If water is coming in near or at floor level then that tells me that hydrostatic pressure may be an issue and then drain tile and sump pump are needed. If it is coming through higher on the wall, then steps need to be taken to eliminate this intrusion.

First resolve water issues, then add on.

Hope this helps!
