adding insulation to unfinished attic

my house is old, there is no insulation underneath my attic floor. my question is do i remove the floor to place insulation or can i just roll insulation on top of the floor? the attic is empty, i dont use it for any reason. thanks!

Insulate Attic

If your attic has a floor, you might first consider having blown cellulose placed into the joist spaces under the floor and if you need more insulation according to your location, add the rest above the floor in the form of fiberglass batts.
