Cedar Plank Paneling

I'd like to install cedar planks (1x6) on my basement walls. Currently it's sheet rocked and I'd like the panels to go about half way up with some sort of finishing at the top. I've no idea how to do that. Can someone help?

Cedar for the looks? Have you considered pine or poplar, if your going to stain it. Pine and poplar, when finished with a varnish will to different degrees, develop an umber patina over the years.
Decide if you are going to use the freeze board(first horizontal board), or an additional base molding, decide the angle that pleases you and the height.
Because this was probably not planned for and the blocking not installed when the walls were framed, you'll need to use some construction adhesive.
If you wish to blind nail,(few nails exposed), start with the grove up.
When you've reached the top, there a number of chair rails available, probably not in cedar, you can have some milled or do something else.
