Metal stud framing question

Can you attach the bottom metal plate directly to the basement floor or should a PT 2 x 4 go down first?

Some people put 2x4s down first then the metal channel on top of it, so you have something to nail the trim boards into. I think I would skip the wood and use trim screws though....

Another option. I've attached metal channels directly to the floor and then attached a 2x4 inside the channels to nail trim work to. Works well, but may take a little longer than using trim screws. I've got a brad nailer, so I opted for using wood inside.
