Re-sealing basement walls

I am in the process of demolishing my once finished basement. I discovered that the INTERIOR walls have a coating of tar with aluminum paper (like flashing) over them. I want to reseal the walls with Drylok, but first I was going to remove the aluminum paper and seal over the tar. I'm concerned that the Drylok will not adhere to the tar-like surface. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice?

Thanks
