Need advice on attic ventilation

I've recently moved into a cape cod that was built in 1968. It does not have any dormers and for ventilation it has a gable vent on each side at the top of the house. These sides of the house face NNE and SSW respectively.

I live in the northeast where we get pretty cold, snowy winters.

Should I be concerned about more ventilation or could what I have be adequate?

Is there anything happening that would cause your concern? Like condensation, icing, difficulty cooling the upstairs, shingle damage from ice dams or sun rays? If not, I say leave well enough alone.
