Question Basement framing questions

I have a new home and wish to start finishing the basement and have 2 questions.
The perimeter is steel studed with insulation and vapor barrier. I am putting in a bathtub and one end will be against this. Steel studs are not all that sturdy and I was wondering if I should be doing anything extra here or is it allright just to leave as is.
Secondly I was advised to not run the wall right up to the floor joists but to leave 1/4 or so and nail up through the top plate and into the floor joists. Thus allowing for settling. I just was looking for some feedback on this. I will be using wood 2x4 studs for all the interior basement walls.
Thanks

This is a total misconception, steel studs are actually superior framing as compared to wood, attach your drywall right to them and don't give this a second thought. I addressed you other question in your post over in the Framing & Subflooring forum. I would merge the two threads to keep the whole discussion in the same place, but we'll need a SM to do that I guess.
