Hi, We moved into a new house last fall. It has an English basement with 3 windows above ground. There is wood framing for the part that is above ground. The wood-framed wall is insulated with fiberglass insulation and that is all covered with plastic (which my inspector said is a fire hazard??). We would like our kids to be able to run around in the basement but are worried that they will be exposed to the fiberglass insulation. Is this a health issue? If so, what would you recommend we do? Cover it with drywall, or some kind of thin wood, or ??? We do not plan to finish the basement at this point (will do when they're teenagers). By the way, there is an exterior door right above part of the wood-framed wall and this door had a leak (supposedly fixed as part of inspection). The insulation appears to be moldy underneath the plastic. I assume we should replace this? Should we just replace it with fiberglass insulation again, or is there something better/safer we could use? Thanks! Sue

Hi, one of my rooms on the second floor doesn't have attic and is by itself on that side of the house. The roof only have one side so the ceiling is a slope with a low point and a high point. I notice the soffit has soffit vents but is partly covered with paint. Don't know whether there is exhaust vents at the high point of the roof. Assuming not, can a ridge vents be used in this structure? If so, do I just cut a small opening along the high point and cover it with the regular ridge vents followed by the ridge cap (is modification of the ridge cap necessary to fit the shape??)? Any other suggestions? Also, how do I go about removing the paint on the soffit vents? Or is it better off to replace the soffit vents completely? Thanks!
