How to create drain access through subfloor?

My husband and I are finishing a section of our basement. The drain cleanout is in a corner of this area. I know that we need to create an opening in the subfloor to allow access to this drain, but I am unclear as to how we finish that out so that it looks nice.

We will be using DriCore subflooring with carpet on top.

Thanks!

drain cleanout

I've never seen anything too unique or clever when it comes to finishing

around cleanouts. One option that always seems to work is a well placed

piece of furniture. If it's near the wall, some sort of built-in cabinet would

do, as long as it still provides the access you'll need to use the clean-out.

I had one in my last house, the subfloor cut out in a circle around the cleanout. The cleanout plug was a brass plug with a slot accross it for loosining or tightening. They had a piece of velcro on top of it and a small disk of carpet that was velcroed too, and stuck to the top of the plug.
If you didnt know where to look...you would never find it.

That's a good idea! Thanks for the idea. I will take a trip to the home center and see what I can find that will work with that idea.

I'm in the exact same position. We have one small brass cleanout level with the concrete floor and are using Dricore + carpet for flooring.

I intend to cut a small section out of the Dricore & then put the Dricore "plug" I cut out back in. This will enable future access through the Dricore.

I then plan to just have the carpet installers lay the pad & carpet right over the subfloor as if there was no hole at all.

In the future if I had to access that point, I'd have to pull the carpet up from the edge of the room to reveal the cutout. It's 2 to 3' from the wall so pretty easy to pull up, access it, and put the carpet back down.

When the inspector is here for the rough framing inspection, I'll see what he thinks of my plan. If he says that's ok, I'm gold. If he frowns on that idea, I'll probably carpet this room after my final inspection. I don't think he will care, because the building code is kind of vague on this "access" I think.

I've also got an access point in a vertical pipe about 8' from this one that I will keep available (via a cabinet door or something); I'm not totally dependent on this one point.

Cheers, Steve
