basement bathroom ceramic tile question

Dont know if this has been posted elsewhere. I have a question regarding the sequence in finishing the floor in my basement bathroom. The slab is flat and will not need self-leveling. Also the house is about 3 years old. Do I install my tile first, then the closet flange? If so, how do I secure the flange to the tile? Btw, the toilet drain had been roughed in when we had the house built and is PVC.

Thanks

Just install the flange and tile up to it. It will be slightly higher than the tile and work well. Some tile is not easy to drill through without expensive bits and tightening the flange too much can crack the tile. Leave some breathing room between the flange and the tile.

I know nobody asked but I wonder if it would be advisable to add an isolation membrane to address future cracks that may appear. This is more for my own edification.

I think at 3 years old, your pretty safe, 5 years old then there should be no problems for sure. If there wre cracks elsewhere in the basement but not the bath area, then Yes, I would strongly advise an anti fracture membrane to be safe. Also, the OP indicated the toilet was roughed in when the original slab was poured. If the slab had been cut to run new plumbing and backfilled and patched, then absolutley you would need a membrane to protect against the cold joints that were created.
