Installing baseboards on cement floor
I just finished finishing my basement and am about to install the baseboard. Do I install them flush to the ground or do I leave them up 1/4"?
Right now the floor is the original cement, and i will have it padded and carpeted once the baseboards are in.

Raising it up 1/4" would be a good idea- it should account for any irregularities in the cement floor- the carpet and pad will easily cover 1/4".

We use 3/8"to 1/2" up off the floor , So the carpet can go over the nail strip and under the base. Paint it first before you put it down then all you have to do it touch it up after the carpet is down.

Baseboard
Jay:
The correct way to do it is to lay your carpet first and then your baseboard.
However it is your house, so however you do it is ok with me. 1/4" to 1/2".
Good Luck

If you lay the carpet down first then the baseboard you cant pull the carpet up to put new in if you want later on. Cause the tack stips are under the baseboard.Have always put the base in first for over 35 years now.

Baseboard Molding.
I know Ed that this is how you do it in Florida. In over 3000 homes I have built I have never done it that way. Never had a complaint either. Maybe I should go back and redo all of them.
